At JTS you will be a part of a rich tapestry of communal life that encompasses the spiritual, ethical, and academic. You will create a spirit of holiness with your classmates as you gather together for daily minyanim, Shabbat meals, and yom tov celebrations.

You will translate into action one of Conservative Judaism's core values—the devotion to the ideal of tikkun 'olam (improving the world)—as you become actively involved in community service projects in New York City neighborhoods with the Va'ad Gemilut Hasadim: Helping Out for Heaven's Sake.
Beyond being a center of Jewish learning, JTS forms a vibrant Jewish community that is a vital part of the dynamic Jewish scene of New York City. In the midst of bustling New York, you will find a peaceful refuge in JTS's quiet courtyard and sculpture garden and in nearby Riverside Park along the Hudson River, with its tree-lined jogging trails, tennis courts, and wooded enclaves. Our immediate neighborhood, Manhattan's Upper West Side, is filled with restaurants, coffee bars, bookstores, and boutiques where students from JTS and neighboring Columbia and Barnard gather to talk, eat, and shop. And when you are ready to explore, you will find Central Park close by, an urban oasis of trails, bridle paths, lagoons, meadows, and the famous Strawberry Fields. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and The Jewish Museum are all just east of the park. And of course, there's Fifth Avenue, SoHo, and the Village, all with their own attractions from art galleries to boutiques.
