A Discussion with Dr. Jonathan Klawans, Author, JTS, March 19, 2013, 7:30 PM
Dr. Jonathan Klawans, associate professor of Religion at Boston University, presented Josephus and the Theologies of Ancient Judaism on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m., at JTS. The book reexamines 1st-century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus’s descriptions of ancient Jewish sectarian disputes over determinism and free will, the afterlife, and scriptural authority. It calls for a renewed focus on Josephus’s testimony, and models an approach to ancient Judaism that gives theological questions adeserved place alongside matters of legal concern. Dr. Klawans’s Library Book Talk was sponsored by The JTS Library.
