Career Services

List College offers students an array of career-related services in addition to, and in conjunction with, what Columbia and Barnard offer. Students meet with the director of Career Development, as needed, for one-on-one career advising to go over career plans (including graduate school options), internships, résumés, cover letters, interview follow up, and networking opportunities.  Evening and Sunday sessions are held to inform students at large about pursuing jobs and/or career paths and addressing the different phases of the search. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Ruth Samson-Lefkowitz and Charles Lefkowitz, special programming is offered each semester for seniors only.

These Senior Forums address issues that seniors imminently face such as graduate school plans, alternative career options, budgeting, housing, student loan repayment, and fostering a Jewish identity and getting involved with the local Jewish community after college. An increasingly strong aspect of Career Services at List is the involvement of List alumni and board members. In addition to networking with current students, helping them secure internships and post-graduation positions, alumni, and board members attend and often facilitate career sessions. Additionally, the director participates in a consortium of career professionals affiliated with Columbia that plans events and discusses career services and trends, further ensuring that List students are receiving current and appropriate career advice.

Working with Columbia and Barnard

The director of Career Development at List College works closely with career services at both schools. The director is also a member of a consortium of career professionals whose schools are affiliated with Columbia University. The consortium plans university-wide events and discusses Columbia Universitycareer services and trends, further ensuring that List students are receiving current and appropriate career advice. List College has partnered with Columbia in the past on its Annual Nonprofit Career Fair, creating a strong sense of belonging for List students and alumni who attended.

For the past few years, the Fall Orientation for new students has included a walking tour of Columbia's Center for Career Education, including an opportunity to meet with career staff.
